Have you ever seen a baby who was experiencing a depressive emotional state? Of course not. Have you ever seen a young happy child finding out he is not going to get to go to Disneyland? Can you imagine his mood swing from very up to very down. Ever seen a teenage girl finding out her new boyfriend went out with her best friend? Emotions range from deep despair and hopelessness and grief, up to bliss and ecstasy and so many places in between. I know someone who would feel guilty if they found a dollar bill in the parking lot and did not turn it in to the authority.

People are emotional beings, they get up and they get down, all depending on what dominates their experience. The use of the word depression or chronic depressive are debilitating labels assigned to individuals not realizing the effect the branding will have on the person. The extreme cases find teen suicide in not relieved by such labeling.

This is not to say that people do not experience prolonged moods at the lower end of the scale. Sometimes people are as happy and go lucky as can be bubbling carefree throughout the day and at other times feeling deep in despair. ‘Negative’ feelings are a conflict between the emotions you are experiencing and the emotions you desire and believe you can not have. And the more aware or in touch with one the less aware you are with the other. Physical pleasure is real and one might say it’s the opposite of pain. If your body is on fire you are unable to imagine the pleasure of affection. There is too much attention on the pain from which you are desperate to escape.

When you are down you generally don’t feel inspired enough to get yourself out unless you realize you are the source of how you feel. Because those emotions you are feeling give rise to thoughts which keep you there. Where you are however can be of real value because from its location you can look to where you’d rather be. And then it’s just a matter of reaching for a better feeling thought. Not a big better feeling thought just a little better feeling thought at a time. This transforms your emotions; it points you in the direction of higher and better feeling thoughts.

Where there are such ‘negative’ feelings and emotions there are thoughts which fit that energy field. Energy precedes everything yet it’s everything that seems to be causing the experiences you find yourself having. Fact is reality as it shows up in your life follows the energy, feelings and emotions which gave rise to it. Everyone is reading the environment in which they live their lives and each interprets it in their own way. People who can get really down have mighty big dreams but are simply lost in the beliefs that they can not have the things that would see them living a happy and joyful life.

Hope is here because you could not even attract this information into your life had you not the will to do so. The emotions you get lost in, give you the thoughts and reality you seem stuck in. It is that simple. Artificial chemicals used to have you feeling happy or relaxed are considered by people as the source of that better feeling. The problem is it reinforces that they themselves have no natural ability to drive their life in the direction they want emotionally.

We have been taught to believe that the situations and circumstances of life make us feel as we do. Granted it is not easy to grasp that this is completely backwards to reality, but that is because we have spent all of our lives being taught directly and indirectly that this was the case.

Thoughts are part of the physical reality and have a pull; they influence and grab your attention. And this of course has you feeling as you do. When those feelings are as powerful as hopelessness, helplessness and unworthiness, the reality that shows up is logical to one who is experiencing these emotions.

Young people have an extraordinarily strong desire to feel good, to seek what their life offers them. If they experience limiting beliefs and assumptions about their own value, life can be quite a challenge. You can not move from negative emotions to those of joy in one quick step. You can however alter the conversations that keep you experiencing the antithesis of bliss and ecstasy. One only needs to be committed to their own happiness. This is a starting conversation.
