Anxiety Depression Help: Depression and Anxiety – How to Overcome This Dreadful Pair

With me, depression and anxiety went hand in hand – they seemed to feed off each other. Suffering with anxiety and greatly interfered with my life. I couldn’t finish school; hold down jobs; maintain relationships; or even leave the house sometimes. I missed out on so much in life, and this led to deep periods of depression.

The periods of depression became really serious (I had thoughts of suicide). So I decided to seek professional help. I was put on medication and received therapy. This helped me to a degree, but I didn’t like the negative side-effects of the meds and I only had mixed results with the counseling.

I also began studying depression and anxiety self-help books and online resources. I gained a greater understanding of my condition and this understanding has allowed me to cope better.

The most important thing I learned is that we have more control than we think over the cause of anxiety, panic and depression. They’re all caused by our thoughts – negative thoughts.

One little worry leads to another little worry. All this worry builds and builds and turns into anxiety and panic attacks which can put a big damper on your life. Living a life based on fear greatly limits your ability to get anything done – and takes all the joy out of life.

When there’s no joy in your life, you can’t help but be depressed all the time – even suicidal. But there’s hope, if you can gain control of the negative thinking. Negative thinking is a bad addiction that builds up over time. In my case it began in childhood. So you might not cure it overnight, but with the practice of certain coping skills – you really can get better.

I’ve learned quite a few great coping methods. You can read what I discovered here – Panic Attack Depression.
