Are People Giving Jay-Z the “Illmatic Treatment”?

Question by ?NIC {R.I.P. Sean Taylor}: Are people giving Jay-z the “Illmatic Treatment”?
Do you think people are giving Jay-z the illmatic treatment?

defintion/explanation of “illmatic treatment”- when an artist drops a classic or acclaimed album for their debut, and every album after that is always unfairly compared to that debut w/ expectations of duplicating that greatness

Be serious Jay-z will never drop another Reasonable Doubt, just like MJ would never drop 63 pts again, and just like how the Bulls would never win 70 games in a season again..that didnt tarnish the legacy, just meant they’re human..i’ve seen this on here lately w/ his upcoming album American Gangster..it seems like people wanna hear another Reasonable Doubt, if thats what you wanna hear, then go to your CD collection and bump that. American Gangster is a concept album, meaning it was inspired by something (the movie: american gangster), so thats what the album will focus on…personally, i think jay-z is getting the illmatic treatment

any opinions
discuss
Eason: thats kinda of the point..how come he cant just release an album and yall can take it for whats it worth instead of comparin it to Reasonble Doubt, or The Blueprint
im sorry..i didnt know you spoke for all jay-z fans
JD: age wasnt meant to have anything to do with it, it was just the principle of it…Jordan scoring 63 and Jay droppin reasonable doubt were both GREAT feats in their respective careers, hence the comparison…if you wanna use the age/physical skills dimishing, take a look at Allen Iverson’s stats mainly from 02 thru 05, even early-mid 06..his numbers were consistently leveled or increased during those years which by your perspective, should be the downslide of his career

:) : props for posting that link. Timbaland was really speaking on some tru stuff about Jay-z, he’s goin over ppl’s heads
and JD, i could understand if this was some 20-25 year old rapper that you were “hoping would get better with time” but this a 37 year old rapper, he’s been puttin it down since the early-mid 90’s….He came, He saw, He conquered the game..he doesnt have anything else to prove, i just find it somewhat ironic people are expectin him to get better

No bcause Blueprint and Black Album were classics. Some would say they are some of the best cd’s ever.

Edit: Bcause nobody wants to listen to garbage!!!!! If it is okay or average that will be aight but Kingdom Come is trash and we as Jay-Z supporters do not want that.

Edit: Not all but my friends who dont have a account lol.
