Are Wrist Exercises Bad for Tennis ?

Question by Omkar: Are wrist exercises bad for tennis ?
I see everywhere “do wrist exercises” when I search in Google, but a person claiming he plays for varsity team and “a very good tennis player” said on this site that they should not be done and the wrist serves no purpose for serve, volleying, forehand and backhand. So just wanted to confirm.

Forearm/wrist strength is important, but so is strength in the lower legs, quads, hamstrings, back, abdomen, trunk, upper arms, shoulders, cardio/pulmonary, explosiveness in the legs, and overall aerobic & anaerobic endurance.

If you’re in high school, try to get out and hit 5 or 6 days a week. Play practice matches or practice sets several times a week, in addition to practicing serve, return of serve, ball machine, drills on each and every stroke in the game.

Try to have some *fun* with it: behind the back shots, catching the ball on your strings, tweeners, Bucharest backfires, drop shots, lobs, dinks, etc etc

Ive always wondered this also. My wrists always hurt while I play so i will twist it and it always crakcs. It doesnt help at all, it actually makes my wrists feel numb. But I do know for sure that your wrist has everything to do with tennis, especially volleys! you need to sock your wrist back when you volley. And your grip in general completely involves your wrists.

Stroke Nation | Exercise | Physio Ball After Stroke Arm Exercise – Supporting her affected arm on the ball, Lora is able to relax her bicep while engaging her triceps to reach. In the early stages of stroke recovery, it is important to support the limb during exercise. Without the ball, the weight of her arm will cause the affected bicep to contract reflexively preventing reaching.
