Depressed Teen, Help Plz?

Question by Jason L: Depressed Teen, help plz?
I’m 15 years old and i think i am depressed. I am never motivated in school and im almost always sad, stressed, anxious, or worried about something. I can’t remember the last time i have had a worry free day. I have approached my mother on the issue and she gave me some “natural stress relief” crap, and it is not working. (the medicine she gave me is called “Holy Basil”). She didn’t exactly belief me that i actually had depression and said that every teen goes through a hard stage in their life and that it was just part of growing up. I’m pretty sure suicidal thoughts are not part of growing up…

I have never attempted suicide, and don’t have any intention to, but i can’t help fanticize to just “get away from it all”. I know i have a lot to live for and i would NEVER do that to my . My dad comitted suicide a long time ago so i know depression runs in the family.

At school i don’t want to be around my friends anymore. All my friends have their little issues and i get upset because they think that they have life hard. I can’t stand to be around negative people anymore because their depressing mood brings me down with them,

So anyway, i am looking for some unique tips on how to handel my depression without having to approach my mom again. I have looked on all the websites and they all tell me i have to tell a adult, but i can’t tell my mom again and be humiliated and missunderstood… Any positive advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Well, just to make sure, I’d visit a doctor and see if you’re clinically depressed, which honestly, it sounds like you are.

I went through the same thing. Except, I did contemplate suicide and had a list of 100 ways to kill myself. It definitely wasn’t easy and I 100% understand what you’re going through.

But like I said, just consult a school counsellor or a doctor and see what’s up.
Or just talk to someone, let it all out. Don’t be afraid to, it’s for the best, I promise.

This is most likely unconventional advice but whenever I was going through depressing times I would go to the cemetery. A close friend of mine killed herself when we were in high school and sitting by her grave thinking out loud always helped me.

Also, try keeping a journal. I’ve kept one for the past 8 years and it helps me to think through my feelings. Don’t worry about what you write…just grab a pencil and say whatever is on your mind (I also fill mine with drawings and photos).
