Employee Drug Testing – “laws” or “rules”?

Question by Sac-Attack: Employee – “laws” or “rules”?
Is my employer allowed to “Threaten” me with a urine screen as a punishment for making a mistake? There was no accident or injury, I simply made a mistake with a products information in our system causing a bad sale, (I work for a small company <40 employees in Indiana) also if they do "random" urine screens don't they have to test a specific number of employees on a regular basis? I have worked here for 2 years and of the roughly 25-30 employees I am the only one to have been "randomly" screened and have been 3 times, No one else in the company has been taken for a "Random" one only the pre-employment ones. I did have to sign the probable causee/random test paper, I was just curious about the fact that its not really "random" there is no "2 employees a month" rule etc, its just "we think we're gonna random test you today" and i have been the only person they have sent for a "random" one, (I know this because my roommate is one of my supervisors we were roommates before h was promoted) and they only threatened me with the test, they didnt actually make me take one, the head of the company brought me into his office, yelled at me for messing up made me sign a writee up form that said if i mess something else up i will have to take a drug test and get 3 non paid days off as punishment and they took money out of my paycheck to pay for the mistake and the cost to ship the right part. They can demand a urine test at any time. if they have a policy of randomnes and you are the only one getting tested, then you have something.

If they have prehire, random and post accident, I’d be willing to bet that they also have probable cause testing as well. And if you make mistakes they can consider that probable cause.
