Hank Williams III Drug Abuse: Hank Williams Jr. and His Words

Sports undoubtedly can be a unifying elixir but a recent incident has given the world a shining example of football transcending class, culture and race. It’s been 22 long years that Hank Williams Jr. in his country style singing – “Are you Ready for Some Football?” opened the Monday Night Football. Football is the most popular American sport and thus every single American clings on to the show. 

 
Sounds good? It does but in a recent interview Williams gave all of us a dose of reality. His offensive remarks and sad comparisons made matters worse for him and us too. Though he apparently apologized for saying such things, it was not actually an apology.
 
Nevertheless ESPN is into serious business and cannot withstand such foolishness in the name of the ‘First Amendment’. No law protects an organization’s ability to like or dislike a saying or an action by an individual. It is only the duty of the Congress to stand up to the law. The decision that ESPN has dropped off its famous singer is a clear business strategy. The fact that ESPN had higher stakes and had to look at the interest of the vast majority of its customers as well as players, who would most likely view any sort of support to such an abhorrent comment an act of tacit tolerance. 
 
Thus Hank Williams Jr. had finally been asked to get back home, with his rowdy bunch of friends. Barry Sanders is the next choice for the world leader to open the “Monday Night Football.” It appears though that the star will not sing a country song, he would be featured in a video that kind of previews the game. On such a short notice it doesn’t seem to be a bad deal at all, at least a tough one to what Hank had to say on the channel.
