Holistic Drug Rehab Centers: Connect Your Body and Mind Together

There is a connection between the body and the mind. When one or the other is out of sorts this usually results in disease. This is more noticeable in a physical condition. Addiction does not only affect the mind as most people seem to believe.

When a person is dis at ease with what is going on in the mind they abuse drugs and/or alcohol to feel better. This temporarily seems to make the situation better. Both the mind and body need healing so that a person can become free from chemical dependency. This comprehensive treatment is offered in holistic drug rehab centers.

A common component of rehab is detox. In traditional rehabs this is the only physical element of the therapy. The substances are not completely removed from the system, even though the person is off of them. A person will need to do a biophysical rehab in order to have whatever they were abusing completely out of the system.

The basic elements of a biophysical rehab are light exercise, medical saunas, supplements, and proper nutrition. Depending on the facility one chooses to go to it can also include other things. Some people find it beneficial to incorporate yoga or acupuncture in their program. Others like massage and organic food as an option, because these can help a person commit to their well-being. A person is truly clean when they go through this type of detox. It is not a superficial removal of substances. An individual is now ready to address the mental side of their addiction.

A person refreshed from a holistic drug detox will be ready to tackle the question of what led them to addiction. In non-12 step facilities this will be done in individual therapy sessions. It is quite common for the counselor to be a recovered addict, so they are able to understand exactly what the person is going through. Holding oneself accountable for their actions in life is one of the things a person learns. A new life plan is put in place that doesn’t involve addiction. They come out with new coping mechanisms.

When they are healed will determine the length of their stay in rehab. There is no added pressure to heal by a due date, so the person is able to relax and focus on the important job of healing. The body and mind will be able to handle whatever comes their way when the individual re-enters normal day-to-day living.
