Any hospital that receives federal monies is required to help you. These hospitals are public hospitals (as opposed to private) and often serve as “teaching hospitals” for medical and nursing schools in the area.

You do not decide if you need to “go through detox.” This is a call that a physician has to make and then write an order for the treatment. Even if you try to check yourself in to a detox unit, a physician is going to have to be involved to authorize it.

Call your local ambulance service company and ask them which hospitals in your area are public. Then call those hospitals and ask what services they offer for indigent patients with drug/alcohol problems.

You might also call the non-emergency number of the police. Very often there is a resource person who can give you some info. When the police pick up people who are having serious drug problems, there’s is an assigned provider where those people are taken. Find out what it is. Where I live there is a county facility where substances abuses are remanded by the police. We also have a huge facility for outpatient care that is funded by a local charity and operates on a sliding fee scale.

On Monday, call the local health department and ask about detox/substance abuse service.

I know it’s difficult to undertake such a project when you’re not feeling up to it, but given the circumstances, I don’t think you have much of a choice unless you have a friend or family member who can help.

Good luck to you.
