The Local Church Movement (Aka “the Lord’s Recovery”). Anyone Heard of Them? Thoughts?

Question by Bauer523: The Local Church movement (aka “The Lord’s Recovery”). Anyone heard of them? Thoughts?
For a year now I have been doing a bible study on campus at my college with 2 guys associated with this “local church movement”. They use a version of the bible called The Recovery Version that has commentary written by Witness Lee. They also pray differently than other Christians and continually overstress various points in study, which they consider “lost truths”, such as: “God’s economy”, the human spirit, Christian “overcomers”, oneness, “exercising your spirit”, and “calling on the name of the Lord”. They also believe some things I have a problem with, like they believe Jesus IS the Father and the Spirit. Sorta pentacostal-like in their view of the trinity. They also knock Christian denominations and seem to believe God is only working through their local church movement.

Despite all of these unorthodox things about them, they seem to be the most devout of Christians I’ve ever come across, and are extremely kind hearted, and I hate to tell them I have a problem with some of the stuff they teach because they know sooo much more than me and probably have a convincing answer ready for any type of criticism I might give of their church movement. I asked my dad about them, he used to be a baptist pastor, and he had never heard of them. Kinda odd.

I’m wondering, has anyone else had experience with the “Lord’s Recovery”/”Christians on Campus”/”local church movement”, and what did you think of them and their beliefs?

You can find the same devotion in the Mormon and JW church as well as the Potters House.

Sad isn’t it, how other Christians don’t want to move off their butts to get something done with that much if not more motivation and enthusiasm? The ones that do show such spirit are starting to get old in my point of view. In other words, only the elders of the church or the very old members show such vigor for God.

We need another unified movement with an urgency.

now get ready for some trolls to say crusades or Inquisition to my comment above. Yeah that’s right trolls, your not original, in fact you are even predictable.

You said that these two guys are seem to be the most devout of Christians that you have ever come across, and are extremely kind hearted.
You should consider this matter according to the Bible. Romans 15:7 says: “Therefore receive one another, as Christ also received you to the glory of God”. We should receive the believers according to Christ’s receiving. If Christ received them, you own also to receive. It’s a serious matter!
2 John 10 says: “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not say to him, Rejoice!”
What teaching John tells about? He referred it in v. 7: “For many deceivers went out into the world, those who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.” Jesus Christ coming in the flesh is explained by John in John 1:1, 14. It implies that in the beginning the Word was with God and the Word was God and the Word became flesh. The Word became flesh. Who is the Word? Is the Lord Jesus Christ. It points that Jesus is God.
In the beginning, in the eternity past, God, the Father, and God, the Son, and God, the Spirit, existed together. Nevertheless, there are not three gods. There are only One God. The Father, The Son, and The Spirit are One. It is mysterious to our poor mind, but is biblical, and we own to believe.
They say that the Son is the Father based in Isaiah 9:6. It is biblical. It is consistent with the fact that the Father, the Son and the Spirit exist together, but they are One.
They say that the Lord Jesus is the Spirit, based in 1 Corinthians 15:45 and 2 Corinthians 3:17. It is also consistent with the fact that the Father, the Son and the Spirit exist together, but they are One.
There is not any verse in the Bible that tell about a Baptist Church or any other denomination, but Acts 8:1 tells about the church which was in Jerusalem, Acts 13:1, the church in Antioch, 1 Corinthians 1:2, the church of God which is in Corinth, Revelation 1:11, seven churches in Asia. These all are churches in cites. “Local” is an adjective that indicates the church in a city. In the original text, Acts 13:1 uses the expression local church. But the fact is that all these churches are churches in cites, thus, the local churches are not a movement, but a biblical practice of the church.
These two guys are working in the work of the Lord (1 Corinthians 16:10). If you don’t understand the truths that they tell you, at least does not “hate to tell them”.
Consider this in a biblical way. It is very serious. We love you.
I’m in the church in Jundiai, Sao Paulo, Brazil. You are welcome to write me, by e-mail, for any other matter. I think you can do it by my profile.
