Besides the psychotic ones. Just the others who live in a different reality.

People are helped, whether they are mentally or physically ill, because they have value as human beings. Why let something like an illness take a person away from society? It doesn’t make sense to just waste their lives if they can be helped.

From a practical standpoint, if you can help someone and get them back on their feet, then they can contribute to society through a job, taxes, etc. instead of being a drain on society.

Unfortunately, these days, it’s hard to get help unless you threaten to kill someone, and even then you can’t get help a lot of times, as an example, look at that guy that killed the postal worker and shot up the daycare in LA, he tried to go to the emergency room 3 times and get admitted for but they turned him away…

Because they pay. Mental health services come at a price, nobody gets treatment for free.

Psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors – they all get paid. Nobody voluntarily helps the mentally ill.
