Even after, let’s say 30 years, they still call themselves a “recovering alcoholic”. Will they ever be just “recovered”?

no, because its an ongoing battle. as soon as u slip once ur gunna get right back on the bottle so its a way to put urself in check and remind urself that u couldnt control it before and u wont control it now

They recognize that they always have the potential to return to alcoholism. Therefore, they are always “recovering”.
